Buddhism

Buddhism is a religion that originated in India and has now spread through much of Asia and the world as a whole. Followers of Buddhism practice the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama also known as the Buddha. An important distinction between Buddhism and other types of spirituality or religion is that Buddhism does not follow any form of Deity. While Buddhists follow Buddha, they do not worship him as a God. Instead, listen to his life teachings and follow the spiritualism that he preached.

 The Story of The Buddha:

Siddhartha is said to have been a wealthy prince. A wise-man foretold that Siddhartha would either be a great king or an enlightened teacher. He foretold that if Siddhartha were to see the “four passing sights” – old age, sickness, death, and a wandering ascetic, he would renounce his royal status and seek enlightenment. Despite his father, the king’s desire to keep him from being exposed to these four passing sights, Siddhartha did in fact witness each of them. He then became determined to find the root cause of these problems and sought to solve them and reach enlightenment.

According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha sat under a tree, known as the Bodhi Tree. He vowed to sit under the tree until he learned the true meaning of human suffering. Under that tree, he meditated on all he knew of human suffering. He came to the conclusion that ego and greed caused suffering. Upon being able to release all of the ego-centered attachment in his mind, Siddhartha became the Buddha, the enlightened one. He achieved a state called nirvana.
