Islam

Islam is the second most common world religion. It is heavily practiced in the middle east and around the world. Islam is about offering submission to the deity and aligining yourself with God’s will. Over one billion people practice it worldwide. Islam recognizes God the Creator; Muhammad, the final messenger; and the Qur’an, God’s final word. Islam is about being fully yourself in order to fully give yourself to God. It is a religion without a priest or minister, people have a direct, personal connection with God. The Qur’an is the sacred text for Muslims. It was revealed to the prophet Muhammad and is written in Arabic. It is primarily an oral text, preserved through listening and reciting.

Muslims pray five times a day after the adhan, a call to prayer. There are two fundamental faith statements reiterated by the faith, those being; There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God. This profession of faith is the first of the five pillars of Islam, a spiritual guide on how to live life to the fullest in service of God. The other pillars are as follows: daily prayer five times a day, fasting for the holy month of Ramadan. A pilgrimage to Mecca, the holy city, and almsgiving or charity work.
